Built with accessibility at its core, not as an afterthought
Our Commitment
KindredAccess was built by and for the disability community. We believe that accessibility isn't just a feature - it's a fundamental right. Every aspect of our platform is designed with diverse abilities in mind.
We build toward WCAG 2.1 Level AA. A January 2026 automated code review found a strong foundation and also identified work still in progress, including manual screen-reader and keyboard testing. It was not a certification or a third-party audit — when we complete independent testing, we'll publish the results here.
Accessibility Features
Alt-Text Required
All profile photos and shared images require descriptive alt-text for screen reader users.
Customizable Display
Adjust text size, font family, contrast, and motion preferences to suit your needs.
Keyboard Navigation
Visible focus indicators and skip links support keyboard navigation; manual end-to-end testing is ongoing.
Screen Reader Support
Semantic HTML, ARIA labels, landmarks, and live regions support screen-reader use.
Dyslexia-Friendly Fonts
Choose from system fonts, serif, or dyslexia-friendly font options.
Reduced Motion
Disable animations and transitions if they cause discomfort.
Display Settings
We offer extensive customization options to make KindredAccess comfortable for you:
- Text Size: Small, Medium (default), Large, Extra Large
- Font Family: System default, Serif, Dyslexia-friendly (OpenDyslexic)
- High Contrast Mode: Enhanced color contrast for better visibility
- Reduced Motion: Minimize or eliminate animations
- Increased Line Spacing: More space between lines for easier reading
- Simplified Reading Mode: Cleaner layout with fewer distractions
Assistive Technology Compatibility
KindredAccess is built to standards that should work with the assistive technology below. We haven't yet completed a manual test pass with each one — if something doesn't work with your setup, tell us and we'll prioritise it.
- Screen Readers: VoiceOver (macOS/iOS), NVDA, JAWS
- Voice Control: Voice Control (macOS/iOS), Dragon NaturallySpeaking
- Switch Devices: Compatible with switch navigation
- Magnification: Works with system zoom and magnification tools
- Browser Extensions: Compatible with accessibility browser extensions
